LRS superintendent selected for national-level award

Senior Master Sgt. Jeffrey N. Trudeau, 157th Logistics Readiness Squadron Fuels Management Flight superintendent, was recently named as this year's Gen. Lew Allen Jr. Award recipient.

The award, which recognizes work with aircraft during sortie generation, is given annually to honor a base-level officer and a senior NCO working in aircraft, munitions or missile maintenance.

"Sergeant Trudeau is an outstanding leader and performer in the Fuels Management Flight, leading a 15 member team that distributed six million gallons of JP8 fuel to more than 1,000 aircraft," said Lt. Col. William R. Davis, 157th Mission Support Group deputy commander. "Sergeant Trudeau and his team were responsible for supporting nearly 6,000 flying hours, second highest in the Air National Guard."

The award citation highlighted several accomplishments including accommodating after-hour Central Command missions, managing a $49 million fuel account and creating the fuels SharePoint site that was credited with improving the unit's preparedness.

"Among the many achievements by Sergeant Trudeau was his superb scheduling of personnel through a limited manning period," Davis said. "His resourcefulness resulted in the team being 100 percent Nuclear Operation Readiness Inspection ready last fall."

In an email to the 157 ARW group commanders, Col. Paul "Hutch" Hutchinson, 157 ARW commander, commended Trudeau on his award saying that it was "especially well-deserved."

Trudeau was also recognized for his leadership in the clean-up of record snowfall at Pease, notably, assisting the KC-46 site survey team have access to areas of interest during a winter storm.

Additionally, he dedicated numerous hours during a "Day of Caring" for a squadron member with a terminal illness. Trudeau coordinated nine projects that directly impacted the member's quality of life.

Sergeant Trudeau is also the driving force in coordinating the Air National Guard on-field presence during Boston Red Sox baseball games at Fenway Park when military personnel present the colors during the playing of the National Anthem.

General Lew Allen Jr. was commissioned upon his graduation from the U.S. Military Academy in 1946. He later went on to become the 10th Air Force Chief of Staff before retiring in 1982. He died Jan. 4, 2010.

The award period covers June 1 through May 31.
