Environmental Management


The NH National Guard is committed to protecting the health of New Hampshire's citizens and the ecosystems we share. The Environmental Office provides guidance and oversight for the NH National Guard, enabling us to successfully complete our mission while preserving and protecting New Hampshire's environment.

Our Environmental Policy

The NH National Guard's Environmental Policy is part of our ongoing effort to conform with the International Organization for Standards' (ISO) standard for environmental management (ISO 14001.2004). ISO, the world's largest developer and publisher of international standards, has established this standard to help organizations like the NH National Guard protect the environment, prevent pollution, and improve our environmental performance.

1. The New Hampshire National Guard (NHNG) is a dynamic organization comprised of Citizen Soldiers and Airmen, who are trained and ready to serve and defend our Nation, our State and its communities while protecting human health and the environment.

2. In order to achieve the dual goals of mission readiness and environmental steward-ship, the NHNG is committed to:

a. integrating environmental values and promoting environmental awareness throughout our organization to sustain readiness, enhance training , improve quality of life, and foster a positive partnership with our stakeholders through communication of this policy to members of the NHNG, its employees, members of the public. and those doing work on our behalf;

b. continually improving environmental programs in pursuit of environmental excellence;

c. promoting and implementing environmental objectives and targets that enhance mission readiness, conserve energy, prevent pollution, and promote recycling ;

d. achieving compliance with Federal, State, and local environmental requirements and other requirements to which we subscribe;

e. conserving and sustaining natural and cultural resources for future generations through effective stewardship and fostering a sustainable training environment;

f. considering and documenting the environmental effects of our activities and services early in our planning and decision-making processes. This will be done by designating and reviewing significant environmental aspects to ensure they remain relevant to our organization and conducting National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) analyses.

3. Adherence to these commitments is vital to NHNG readiness and mission accomplishment, and part of being a responsible member of our communities.
