PEASE AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, N.H. -- The 157th Air Refueling Wing Airman and Family Readiness Program here is scheduled to offer two free resume workshops for military members, veterans and their spouses during the month of March.

Both workshops require interested parties to register with the AFRP Program Manager, Bonnie Rice, in order to reserve their spots. She can be reached by email: bonnie.l.rice.civ@mail.mil

“I try to offer these classes at least twice a year, or as needed,” said Rice. “With a large group of deployed Airmen returning, I thought it might be helpful.”

The first workshop, called Resume Writing for the Private Sector, is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to noon on Monday, March 26, 2018, in the Wilbrandt Auditorium in building 247, here.

According to the national payroll company, ADP, the U.S. added 250,000 private sector jobs to the economy in December 2017.
The Resume Writing for the Private Sector workshop is designed to help participants tap into these jobs by teaching them to write attention-grabbing resumes and cover letters for the current employment environment. Participants will learn how to effectively showcase their skills and abilities for prospective employers.

“It is very important to be prepared with a current resume,” said Rice. “You never know when an opportunity will present itself. The instructors will help our military members to translate their skills for civilian employment.”

The workshop will be taught by a former private sector human resources staffing specialist with 14 years of resume teaching experience.
The second workshop, called Federal Resume Writing and USAJOBS, is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, 2018, also in the Wilbrandt Auditorium, here.

The Office of Personnel Management has implemented a series of improvements to the USAJOBS website, which adhere to the new U.S. Web Design Standards, including a new five-step application process. These improvements are designed to simplify the application process as a whole.

Participants will learn about the free tools and services available to them, as well as how to find openings and identify key information within the vacancy announcements.

Rice explained why these skills are important for the Airmen of Pease.

“Ensuring our Airmen are employed helps them to be financially stable and able to securely leave their families behind when duty calls,” said Rice. “I work with a variety of resources, military installations, the VA and other community resources to ensure our members are mission ready.”

The workshop will be taught by a certified federal career coach.

Rice, who has worked with the AFRP since 2002, expressed how she benefits from her involvement in the program.

“This job is very rewarding to me,” said Rice. “I put all of my heart and soul into this job. I especially like to see our Airmen and their families benefit from these programs and for them to succeed!”
